This personal project was my ambitious idea of learning how to use a drone cinematically. Planning began shortly after getting my first drone and part 107 commercial drone license in August of 2022. At the time I felt the few drone tour/highlight videos of Corvallis online were lacking, both in coverage of the beauty of this amazing place and in the cinematic coverage. It was the perfect opportunity to fill a niche.
The lighting knowledge of on the ground video/photography still applies to a camera in the sky, but the angles and flying moves were all new. The best way to learn is to practice. I spent dozens of early morning and end of the day sunsets driving around scouting and flying all the iconic locations in the local area, often visiting some locations multiple times. After a few months of shooting, I had enough footage to edit into this highlight tour of my hometown.
